2027: No Political Contest Should Destroy Nigeria’s Unity, APC Chairman Warns

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has called on politicians and their supporters to put national unity ahead of political interests, warning that electoral contests should not deepen divisions among Nigerians.

Yilwatda said political disagreements were temporary, while the bonds of brotherhood and national unity should endure beyond elections.

The APC chairman made the appeal in an Eid-ul-Mawlid message to Muslims and Nigerians issued on Sunday, August 23.

He urged Nigerians to draw lessons from the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad, particularly his emphasis on compassion, tolerance, unity and peaceful coexistence.

“At this challenging moment in our national journey, these values offer us a pathway to healing, unity and renewed hope,” he said.

Yilwatda encouraged citizens to regard Nigeria’s diversity as a strength and reject attempts to exploit ethnic, religious or political differences for political gain.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, he cautioned politicians and their supporters against allowing political competition to fuel division, intolerance or violence.

“No political contest should destroy the bonds of brotherhood and national unity that bind us together,” Yilwatda said.

The APC chairman also called on the Muslim Ummah to use the occasion to pray for peace, security and prosperity across Nigeria, as well as wisdom and courage for the country’s leaders.

“Despite our challenges, Nigeria remains a nation of immense talent, resilience and promise,” he added.

Yilwatda prayed for Allah’s blessings upon Nigerian families and communities and wished Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful and spiritually rewarding Eid-ul-Mawlid.

His message comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with political parties and their supporters increasingly positioning themselves for the contests.
