The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, says his campaign will deploy an independent system to transmit election results from polling units to its situation room during the 2027 general elections.
Obi disclosed this during an exclusive interview with Arise TV on Thursday, saying the initiative would allow his team to receive and monitor results directly from polling units as votes are counted and recorded.
According to him, the proposed arrangement would operate alongside the official result transmission system of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Obi said the objective was to ensure that results generated at polling units were accurately captured and transmitted, reducing the possibility of figures being presented at the collation stage that did not originate from the polling units.
“We must make sure that at every polling unit, the votes are counted, the votes are recorded properly, the votes are transmitted properly,” Obi said.
He explained that the proposed system would provide what he described as a dual transmission process, with results sent to the designated INEC platform while simultaneously being transmitted to his campaign’s situation room for independent monitoring.
“And we will have even a dual transmission so that as it’s going to the proper designated INEC portal, it’s also being transmitted where the people can see it,” he said.
The former Anambra State governor, however, rejected the suggestion that the plan amounted to creating a parallel result-transmission system.
Instead, Obi said his team intended to establish monitoring mechanisms across polling units to independently verify the results being transmitted through the official electoral process.

“All we are saying is that this time around, we will make sure that in every polling unit, we must have a system that transmits to our own situation room the correct results,” he stated.
He added that other organisations could adopt similar systems, arguing that broader independent monitoring would make it more difficult for results unrelated to polling-unit figures to be announced.
Obi said the focus should be on ensuring that the figures eventually declared could be traced back to what was recorded at the polling units.
“Our task is to make sure that the right things are done,” he said.
The NDC candidate also maintained that a transparent electoral process was achievable, citing Ghana and other countries as examples.
He further described the 2027 election as a contest involving Nigerians and the government, rather than one that should be viewed strictly through the prism of political parties.
