A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Dele Momodu, has predicted that Peter Obi could defeat President Bola Tinubu in parts of southern Nigeria, warning that the outcome could pose a challenge to the president’s re-election bid.
Momodu made the prediction on Wednesday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he discussed the political dynamics ahead of the next presidential election.
He argued that Tinubu’s support in the South could be weakened by dissatisfaction with his administration, particularly in the South-East and parts of the South-South, where he believes Obi could secure significant support.
“Peter Obi will humiliate Tinubu and all his supporters in the South-East and some parts of the South-South, and that’s dangerous for Tinubu.

“Because for Tinubu to win, he needs to lock down all three regions in the South, and he now has to go and struggle in the North, where he was supported last time by President Muhammadu Buhari, who, as soon as he left, was blamed for all the evil in Nigeria.
“The Yorubas are suffering just like those from the North-West, North-East, North-Central, South-East and South-South,” Momodu said.
The ADC chieftain also criticised what he described as Tinubu’s greater concern for Lagos than for the Yoruba population as a whole, alleging that people within the president’s circle would be reluctant to see his administration repeated.
Momodu’s remarks suggest that Tinubu could face a more difficult path to victory if he fails to maintain strong backing across the three southern geopolitical zones and has to compete more intensely for votes in the North.
