Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled the All Progressives Congress (APC) Lagos governorship ticket for the 2027 election, featuring Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the party’s flagbearer, alongside Princess Damilola Sonayon-James as his running mate.
First Daily reports that Hamzat was formally affirmed as the APC governorship candidate for Lagos during the party’s recent primary process ahead of the 2027 elections, where he polled 657,917 votes out of 657,974 cast.
His only challenger, Lanre Jim-Kamal, scored one vote, while Samuel Ajose withdrew before voting began.
Princess Sonayon-James was later selected as his deputy governorship candidate after further deliberations by the party leadership, with considerations placed on experience, youth inclusion, and grassroots representation.
Sanwo-Olu made the announcement in a statement posted on his official X handle on Thursday, June 11, where he stressed the importance of leadership succession built on competence, trust, and long-term vision.
He said the essence of governance is the ability to entrust leadership to capable hands who can sustain progress and deepen development.
“The true test of sustainable governance is the ability to pass the baton to proven hands, guided by minds that see the future clearly,” he said.

He also introduced Sonayon-James as a leader with strong credentials in sustainability and community development, noting her commitment to youth empowerment and grassroots engagement.
“Joining him as his running mate is Princess Damilola Sonayon-James, a respected leader, sustainability professional, and grassroots champion whose commitment to community development and youth empowerment reflects the aspirations of many Lagosians,” he said.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the ticket represents a balance of experience and fresh energy needed to sustain development in the state.
“Together, they bring the experience, competence, and energy needed to build on our achievements and move Lagos forward,” he added.
As preparations for the 2027 governorship election gather momentum, the governor urged party members, stakeholders, and residents to support the ticket, describing it as key to advancing the vision of a “Greater Lagos.”
