2027: We Won’t Give Obi LP’s Ticket, He Should Quit Party — Arabambi

The Labour Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abayomi Arabambi, has thrown down the gauntlet to Peter Obi, urging him to openly declare his exit from the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday, September 8, Arabambi dismissed speculations that Obi could once again emerge as the party’s presidential candidate.

“If he believes he has that proficiency on his own to have seven million votes in 2027 general elections, we advise him to pronounce his departure from Labour Party,” he said.

Arabambi accused Obi of playing both sides after the former presidential candidate urged supporters during the August by-elections to vote for candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to Arabambi, such actions proved Obi was no longer fully committed to Labour Party.

“Obi has one leg in Labour Party, one leg in PDP, and one leg in ADC,” he said.

The LP spokesman further alleged that Obi was being propped up within the party by Acting National Chairperson, Nenadi Usman, and activist Aisha Yesufu.

“Our plan is to get rid of these elements—people who are just an epitome of political extremism. We don’t want them in Labour Party,” Arabambi stated.

He argued that the party’s strong showing in 2023 had less to do with Obi’s popularity and more with the anger that followed the #EndSARS movement and public discontent with the Buhari administration.

“The momentum in 2023 was not because of Peter Obi, but because of EndSARS,” Arabambi said.

He maintained that Labour Party would contest 2027 without Obi at its helm, insisting the party was bigger than any single individual.
