2027: We’re Not Working For APC, Kwankwaso Declares

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has dismissed allegations that his party is working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, remain committed to contesting the 2027 election.

Kwankwaso also ruled out withdrawing the NDC presidential ticket in favour of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or any other party, accusing the ADC Presidential Campaign Council of spreading claims intended to undermine his party.

He made the position known in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, October 18, amid growing political realignments and tensions among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso said the ADC campaign team had directed unnecessary attacks at him, Obi and the NDC instead of concentrating on presenting its candidate’s credentials to Nigerians.

“Rather than focusing on presenting the competence, credibility, and capacity of their own candidate as we have consistently done by placing our credentials and record of achievements before Nigerians, the ADC Presidential Campaign Council appears intent on creating mischief against our party and ticket,” he said.

He accused the ADC campaign council of attempting to portray the NDC as an ally of the ruling party and suggesting that the opposition party might withdraw from the presidential race in favour of the ADC candidate at the last minute.

Kwankwaso warned that such claims could be used to mislead NDC supporters as election day approaches, stressing that the party had no intention of abandoning its candidacy.

“We are aware that the ADC-PCC may try to mislead our supporters on the eve of the election by claiming that we intend to withdraw in their favour.

“Let me state clearly and unequivocally: we will not withdraw our candidature for the ADC or any other party. We remain confident in our capacity, competence, and readiness to lead Nigeria,” he stated.

Reaffirming the party’s independence, the former Kano State governor said the NDC ticket was neither working for the APC nor acting on behalf of any of its candidates.

“The OK ticket is neither working for nor acting on behalf of the APC or any of its candidates. We see no possibility or reason to withdraw from the presidential race in favour of the ADC candidate or any other. These claims are unfounded and should be treated as such,” Kwankwaso said.

The NDC ticket, popularly referred to as the “OK ticket”, comprises Obi as the presidential candidate and Kwankwaso as his running mate.
