22 Arrested over Killing of 12 Wedding Guests in Plateau — Police

The Plateau State Police Command says it has arrested 22 suspects linked to the brutal killing of 12 wedding guests in Mangu Local Government Area of the state.

The victims, who were travelling from Zaria, Kaduna State, to Quan’pan LGA for a wedding ceremony, were reportedly ambushed and attacked by a mob after losing their way on Friday. Their bus was set ablaze in Mangun, leaving 12 dead and several others injured.

The tragedy drew nationwide outrage, with President Bola Tinubu directing Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

According to a statement released on Sunday by the police spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, 21 victims were rescued and taken to the hospital, while seven suffered various degrees of injuries.

“Upon receipt of this intelligence, the commissioner of police of Plateau immediately directed the divisional police officer of Mangu division to mobilize men and swiftly race to the scene,” Alabo said.

“On reaching the scene, our men in collaboration with other security agencies quickly dispersed the angry mob and rescued twenty-one (21) victims and rushed them to the hospital where they are currently receiving treatment.

“Preliminary investigations revealed the victims were travelers from Zaria heading to Quan’pan LGA for a wedding when they lost their way and were attacked by an angry mob who set their vehicle ablaze.”

Alabo added that a total of 14 persons were rescued unhurt and that 22 suspects have been arrested in connection with the attack.

The police say investigations are ongoing and have promised to bring all those responsible to justice.
