The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old man, Solomon Onaola, following allegations that he sexually abused a 15-year-old girl in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Tuesday by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.
According to the police, the matter was first reported at the Odigbo Divisional Police Station before it was transferred to the Gender Based Offences Unit for further investigation.
The command said the girl’s guardian reported on August 2, 2026, that the teenager, who worked as a domestic help in the household, had repeatedly left the home without permission.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that on 2nd August 2026, the guardian of the victim reported at the police station that the 15-year-old girl, who was working as a domestic help in her household, had on several occasions left home without permission.
“According to the report, when the girl was questioned about where she usually went whenever she left home, she allegedly disclosed that the suspect, Solomon Onaola, had been taking her to his late mother’s residence in Omifon, where he allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with her,” the statement read.
Following the report, police operatives began investigating the allegation and later apprehended Onaola.
The police said the victim has been placed under appropriate care, while necessary procedures are being followed in handling the alleged sexual offence involving a minor.
The Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, has ordered the Gender Based Offences Unit to carry out a thorough and professional investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the allegation and ensure that justice is served.
The command also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable persons from sexual abuse, exploitation and violence.
It urged parents, guardians and members of the public to closely monitor children under their care, remain alert to possible signs of abuse and report suspected cases to the police without delay.
The suspect is still in police custody and will be arraigned after the investigation is concluded, according to the command.
