Legendary musician Innocent “2Baba” Idibia has been named the National Fire Safety Ambassador by the Federal Fire Service (FFS), the agency announced on Friday during the closing ceremony of its 2025 National Fire Safety Week.

The five-day awareness campaign, held under the theme “Building a Culture of Fire Safety Across Nigeria: Overcoming the ‘Not My Portion’ Mentality,” sought to mobilise Nigerians nationwide to embrace personal responsibility, early hazard reporting, and proactive fire prevention habits.

In a statement, the FFS spokesperson and Head of Corporate Services, DCF P.O. Abraham, said the appointment is aimed at leveraging 2Baba’s influence to drive public consciousness regarding fire safety.

During the ceremony at the FFS Headquarters in Abuja, Deputy Controller General Aliyu Tambari, representing the Controller General, Samuel Adeyemi, formally acknowledged 2Baba’s new role. Tambari said, “As a national fire safety ambassador, we expect him to champion behavioural change, amplify public awareness, and inspire a new generation to embrace a culture of safety. His platform gives him the ability to connect with millions, and we are confident he will use it to promote responsibility and vigilance towards prevention.”

The collaboration between 2Baba and the FFS began earlier in November when the musician visited the agency to seek technical support for ensuring the safety of his 25th-anniversary concert, “The 2Baba Experience.” The visit led to a strategic partnership between the Federal Fire Service and the entertainment industry to strengthen public fire safety awareness, starting with the concert.

2Baba expressed gratitude to the FFS for their professionalism and support, noting the importance of safety at events. “Music brings people together, but safety keeps the joy alive. Working with the Federal Fire Service gives me confidence that this celebration will be memorable, safe, and inspiring for everyone,” he said.

The FFS said the appointment underscores its commitment to fostering a nationwide culture of fire safety through collaboration with influential public figures.
