In a major boost to leadership within the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the elevation of 30 senior officers to the prestigious rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections (ACG).
The announcement was made on Tuesday through an official statement signed by Umar Abubakar, the NCoS spokesperson.
According to the release, the promotions underscore the Board’s ongoing commitment to a merit-driven service structure, emphasizing professional excellence and the reinforcement of leadership across correctional facilities nationwide.
“Among those promoted, 27 are general duty officers who have shown exceptional commitment and operational leadership in various formations across the country,” the statement revealed. “Additionally, three professional officers have been elevated for their outstanding contributions in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health.”
This promotion exercise aligns with the broader reform agenda being championed by the Ministry of Interior, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

In his remarks, the Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly promoted officers, urging them to see their advancement not just as recognition, but as a call to higher responsibility.
“This is a charge to intensify efforts in service delivery and uphold our core mandates — reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration,” Nwakuche said. “These promotions reflect our readiness to meet the evolving demands of correctional management and public safety.”
He reaffirmed the Service’s dedication to building a professional, disciplined, and responsive workforce, capable of navigating the complexities of modern correctional systems.
The latest round of promotions marks a significant step in strengthening leadership across the NCoS and signals a renewed focus on performance-based advancement in Nigeria’s correctional institutions.
