No less than 416 Nigerians fleeing Ukraine on Friday arrived Abuja from Romania.
The evacuees, who were the first batch of Nigerian from Ukraine, landed at the private jet terminal of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by 7:10 am (WAT) via a Max Air flight.
This was revealed in an update by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) via its Twitter handle.
The evacuees, who were mostly students, were received by government officials and are expected to undergo documentation after which they will head home and self-isolate in line with the COVID-19 protocols.
The Federal Government said they would be given some money to enable them to get to their destinations.
The Friday’s flight was billed to arrive a day earlier but was delayed due to a hitch in preparing passengers for the check-in process, according to the Federal Government.
Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many countries have been evacuating their citizens from the country.
More Nigerians are still expected to be evacuated from the country in the coming days.
