No fewer than 68 passengers escaped unhurt on Thursday after an Enugu Air aircraft overshot the runway while landing at Benin Airport in Edo State.
The aircraft, bearing registration number 5N-ENR, was operating the Enugu–Benin–Lagos route when the incident occurred.
According to a source at the airport, the aircraft veered off the runway after touchdown and ended up in a nearby bush, triggering an emergency response by airport authorities.
Officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) swiftly moved to the scene and safely evacuated all passengers from the aircraft.
“The aircraft overshot the runway and entered the nearby bush. FAAN officials immediately responded and evacuated all the passengers. Thankfully, there was no loss of life,” the source said.

The number of crew members on board the aircraft had not been confirmed as of the time this report was filed.
Authorities are yet to disclose the cause of the runway excursion, while an investigation is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
