In a decisive move, the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly has suspended all expenditures by the Rivers State government until Governor Siminalayi Fubara presents the state budget to the lawmakers.
This action follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued by the lawmakers, demanding that the governor submit the 2024 budget for review and approval.
The motion to inform the House of the ultimatum’s expiration was raised by the Leader of the House, Major Jack.
After thorough deliberation, the House voted to shut down the Rivers State Consolidated Revenue Account, effectively preventing Governor Fubara’s administration from making any financial transactions on behalf of the state until the budget is presented.
Governor Fubara is yet to comment on the House’s resolution.
