For the second consecutive day, Nigeria experienced another national grid collapse on Tuesday morning, leaving millions without electricity. This latest incident occurred at 9:17 a.m., following an earlier collapse on Monday evening at 6:48 p.m.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), which services parts of Lagos State, confirmed the collapse via its X handle, saying, “Dear valued customer, kindly be informed that there was a system collapse at 09:17hrs which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network. We are currently working with our partners as we hope for a speedy restoration of the grid.”
Similarly, the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company also reported the collapse, explaining that power had been out since Monday evening and restoration efforts were underway.
“We deeply regret any inconvenience this may have caused,” the company stated.
While most parts of the country faced blackouts, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company announced that it would be conducting a scheduled maintenance exercise in some areas of the Federal Capital Territory, assuring residents that the outage was part of efforts to improve service delivery.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) also confirmed that the Monday grid collapse had affected power supply across its coverage areas, including Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.
Efforts are ongoing by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restore power nationwide.
The latest collapse marks the seventh grid failure in 2024, raising concerns about the state of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
