The 81 Division of the Nigerian Army has reported a shocking incident where a private vehicle driver “recklessly ran into troops” during the Division’s Bi-Annual Route March near Myhoung Barracks in Yaba, Lagos State, on the 31st of January, 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Ayeni confirmed that the 81 Division Military Police, alongside other pertinent security agencies, is rigorously investigating the details surrounding the unfortunate event.
In his statement, he noted that Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, the General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the grieving families of the fallen soldier and wished for a swift recovery of the injured.
The GOC urged the public to remain calm as the investigation into this tragic incident moves forward.
“The Division remains unwavering in its commitment to training and operational readiness despite this devastating loss. This tragedy will not hinder our dedication to protecting lives and property within our Area of Operations, in line with the Nigerian Army’s constitutional duties,” the statement emphasized.
The route march, a critical training exercise aimed at enhancing the Nigerian Army’s operational preparedness, saw formations from across Lagos State participating in the exercise.
