The 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery could reach full capacity within 30 days, according to a top official.

“The refinery is currently operating at 85 per cent capacity, and we can go 100 per cent in 30 days,” Reuters quoted Devakumar Edwin, a vice president at Dangote Industries Limited, as saying on Monday.

Edwin noted that despite an agreement with the Nigerian government to purchase crude in naira, the refinery had to import crude last year due to insufficient local supply.

He added that the refinery is exploring multiple markets to expand its reach.

“We are looking at all the markets right now,” he said.

The refinery began producing diesel and aviation fuel in January 2024 after receiving six million barrels of crude at its offshore mooring system. It received its first crude on 12 December 2023, with the sixth cargo arriving on 8 January 2024.

In April 2024, the company began supplying petroleum products to the domestic market.
