PDP Loses Another Rep to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another defection in the House of Representatives, with Amos Magaji, representing Jaba/Zango Kataf Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, joining the All Progressives Congress (APC). Magaji attributed his decision to the ongoing crisis within the PDP.

During Tuesday’s plenary session, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas read Magaji’s defection letter aloud.

“The unresolved crises in the PDP from the national to the state level has made it difficult for me to remain in the party,” Magaji explained.

Magaji’s defection marks the third departure from the PDP to the APC in the 10th Assembly, following Chris Nkwonta and Eriatheke Ibori-Suenu, who left from Abia and Delta States, respectively.

In response, Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda objected, urging Speaker Abbas to declare Magaji‘s seat vacant, citing Section 68(1g) of the Constitution.

Chinda argued that while members are free to switch parties, the law mandates that such defections result in the loss of their seats.
