Chairmen and councillors elected in Saturday’s local government election in Osun State have received their certificates of return from the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC).
A statement by OSSIEC’s Information Officer, Sadiat Isiaka, on Sunday, February 23, confirmed that the commission’s chairman, Hashim Abioye, presented the certificates to the elected officials.
According to Isiaka’s statement, Abioye congratulated the elected chairmen and urged them to uphold democratic values in their service to the people.
“OSSIEC had on Saturday announced candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party as winners in both the 332 councillorship and the 30 local government chairmanship seats in the state,” the statement read.

However, the All Progressives Congress (APC) rejected the outcome, claiming the election did not take place anywhere in the state.
FIRSTNEWS reported that the election was conducted despite opposition from the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, and the Inspector General of Police, Tunji Egbetokun, who had advised against it.
Lateef Fagbemi, had advised Adeleke on Thursday, February 20, to halt the election.
The AGF cited a Court of Appeal ruling in Akure that reinstated the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government chairmen and councillors sacked in 2022 by the Federal High Court in Osogbo.
