In a significant diplomatic development, U.S. President Donald Trump on the 27th of February, 2025, announced that peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are making remarkable strides, commending Russia for its role in the discussions.
Trump made this assertion while hosting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer at the White House, reinforcing the ongoing efforts to broker an agreement that could reshape the geopolitical landscape.
Starmer, who has previously urged the United States to ensure a security framework for European forces potentially involved in a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine, engaged in high-level talks with Trump over the matter. The U.S. President, seated alongside Starmer in the Oval Office, expressed confidence in the durability of a future accord, stating that he does not foresee Russian President Vladimir Putin making another move against Ukraine.

However, Trump remained tight-lipped on specifics regarding any peacekeeping operations, insisting that such discussions would only take place once a formal deal is reached.
“I think Russia has been acting very well. … I think we’re very well advanced on the deal, but we have not made a deal yet,” Trump remarked, underscoring the delicate stage of negotiations.
