In a landmark announcement on the 27th of February, 2025, Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, restored the N100 million monthly subvention to Edo State University, Iyamho, a funding that had been previously withdrawn by the immediate past administration of Godwin Obaseki.
The governor made this revelation at the institution’s 6th convocation ceremony, held in Etsako West Local Government Area, at the country home of former Governor Adams Oshiomhole.
Represented by Washington Osifo, Commissioner for Energy and Water Resources, Okpebholo emphasized the government’s readiness to increase the subvention in the future to further support the university’s growth and development.
His administration has already demonstrated a strong commitment to revitalizing education in Edo State.
In December 2024, the Okpebholo-led government significantly boosted Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma’s monthly subvention from N40 million to N500 million, far surpassing the allocation under the previous administration.
