The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been plunged into grief following the sudden death of Professor Jimoh Olanipekun, a senior lecturer in the Department of Philosophy.
A statement by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the professor fell ill during a departmental meeting on Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
He was observed by colleagues to be breathing abnormally and was immediately rushed to the University Health and Medical Centre. After initial medical attention, he was referred to the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), where he was later confirmed dead.

The university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Bamire, who led a condolence visit to the widow and children, described the death as shocking and painful.
He encouraged the family to take comfort in the professor’s positive impact on the university and society at large, praying that God grants the family and the entire university community the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
