Why I Rejected Life-Changing Millions — Tunde Onakoya Speaks

Renowned Nigerian chess master and Chess In Slums founder, Tunde Onakoya, recently made a life-altering decision, one that had nothing to do with strategy on a chessboard but everything to do with his principles.

In a candid revelation on X, Onakoya shared that he turned down a staggering financial offer not because it was inherently wrong, but because it clashed with his core values and the vision he holds for his future.

Reflecting on the weight of his choice, the 30-year-old acknowledged the internal battle he faced but ultimately prioritized integrity over material gain.

“I recently turned down life-changing money. Not because it was exactly wrong, but it did not align with my values or the vision of who I’m becoming,” he wrote.

He admitted the decision wasn’t easy, as he wrestled with the temptation to justify accepting the offer. But in the end, he chose what he believes to be the greater wealth staying true to himself.

“It was not an easy decision. I wrestled, and tried to justify saying yes, but in the end, integrity is the real wealth. I feel liberated by my decision. I can do anything now.”

Expressing gratitude to those who guided him through the process, Onakoya credited @OgaBoxx for providing wisdom amid the chaos.

“Anyway, I’m forever grateful to @OgaBoxx for helping me navigate this new chaos with so much grace and wisdom.”

For Onakoya, this was more than just rejecting a financial windfall; it was a powerful statement that character and conviction are worth more than any sum of money.
