Stop Targeting Udom Emmanuel, Focus on NASS Issues — PDP to Akpabio

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of orchestrating a smear campaign against the immediate past governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, in what the party describes as a failed attempt to discredit the PDP.

In a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the PDP alleged that Akpabio is behind efforts to manipulate sections of the media to spread falsehoods, misrepresentations, and unverified corruption allegations against Emmanuel.

The party specifically condemned attempts to link Emmanuel to an alleged Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) indictment, dismissing such claims as baseless and misleading.

“Senator Akpabio should know that such an unholy enterprise cannot succeed as Nigerians have already seen through his machinations against the former governor, Udom Emmanuel,” the statement read.

The PDP further defended Emmanuel’s tenure, describing it as one of “transparent, prudent, and service-driven management of resources” that left a lasting impact on Akwa Ibom State. The party highlighted his achievements across various sectors, including aviation, manufacturing, education, healthcare, power, and infrastructure.

The opposition party advised Akpabio to focus on challenges facing the National Assembly rather than engaging in political attacks.

“Senator Akpabio should leave Udom Emmanuel alone and focus on the many challenges facing him in the National Assembly,” the statement concluded.
