President Bola Tinubu has reiterated that his administration’s decisions, including the removal of fuel subsidies, are aimed at securing a better future for Nigerian youths.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Planning Committee for the National Youth Conference at the State House, Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that his economic policies are designed to create long-term prosperity for the nation’s younger generation, which makes up over 60% of the population.
“Every decision I have taken is about you,” Tinubu stated. “When we removed the fuel subsidy, it was to safeguard your future. We have cleared the path for you to have a great future.”
The President acknowledged the trend of young professionals seeking opportunities abroad but expressed optimism that strengthening Nigeria’s economy would encourage them to stay.
“If we build prosperity at home and empower our people, they will have no reason to leave,” he added.
Tinubu assured the 44-member planning committee that the government is committed to implementing the outcomes of their deliberations, urging them to take their role seriously.
“Politics is about development and the future of generations,” he remarked. “You are the heartbeat of our nation, and I am ready to listen to you.”

The President also highlighted the positive impact of his economic reforms, noting that inflationary pressures are easing, the exchange rate is stabilizing, and investor confidence is returning.
“When we started, it was tough, but today, the economy has turned a corner. Prices are falling, and technology is advancing,” Tinubu said. “My role is to clear the way for you so that you can take charge of your future.”
Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, commended the President for prioritizing youth empowerment, citing the administration’s student loan scheme and major infrastructural projects such as the renovation of the Third Mainland Bridge.
Samson Itodo, a committee member, described the planned National Youth Conference as a landmark step in youth inclusion, highlighting key focus areas like political governance, economic transformation, Artificial Intelligence, climate change, and security.
The conference framework, he explained, will incorporate virtual consultations, calls for memoranda, regional town halls, and a final summit in Abuja.
With Tinubu’s pledge to implement actionable recommendations, expectations are high that Nigerian youths will play a more significant role in shaping the country’s future.
