Taraba Govt Confirms Deputy Gov’s Illness, Assures Public of His Return

The Taraba State Government has provided clarity on the prolonged absence of Deputy Governor Aminu Alkali, confirming that he has been undergoing medical treatment but is expected to resume duty soon.

Alkali has been away since November 2024, a situation that has sparked concerns among residents and political stakeholders.

Addressing the matter after Monday’s Executive Council Meeting, Commissioner for Information and Reorientation, Zainab Usman, revealed that the deputy governor suffered a stroke, which temporarily affected his speech.

“His Excellency had an ailment that required him to seek medical attention in Abuja. From there, he was later moved to Cairo, Egypt, for further treatment,” Usman explained.

She urged the public to be empathetic towards Alkali’s condition, emphasizing that illness is a natural occurrence that can affect anyone.

She also dismissed concerns over legal actions questioning the deputy governor’s fitness for office, stressing that his return is solely at the governor’s discretion.

Adding to the assurances, Commissioner for Health Bordiya Buma, who recently visited Alkali in Egypt, reported that he is responding positively to treatment. “He had a stroke that led to weakness on one side of his body and affected his ability to speak. However, he is making significant progress, and we hope to welcome him back to the state soon,” Buma stated.

The Taraba government has called for patience and support as the deputy governor continues his recovery, reiterating that he remains committed to his duties and will resume once his health permits.
