Suspended Senator Natasha Seeks Justice at UN Meeting

The controversy surrounding Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan’s suspension from the Nigerian Senate has taken an international dimension as the lawmaker seeks justice on the global stage.

On Tuesday, the embattled Kogi Central Senator addressed the Women in Parliament session at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Meeting held at the United Nations in New York, where she decried what she termed an “illegal” suspension.

Akpoti Uduaghan, who was suspended following allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, used the platform to call for intervention from international democratic institutions.

She maintained that her removal from the Senate was an injustice that required urgent redress.

Beyond her legal battle, the senator also voiced concerns over her personal safety.

She alleged that there were indications she could be detained in New York for daring to speak out against the situation, citing fears of political persecution by influential figures in Nigeria.

As the controversy continues to unfold, all eyes remain on how both local and international stakeholders will respond to the senator’s appeal for justice.
