President of the Nigerian Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has strongly condemned the recent killings of 16 travelers in Uromi, Edo State, calling for swift justice.
Describing the attack as “senseless and unacceptable,” Akpabio emphasized that such acts of lawlessness should have no place in a civilized society.
In a statement issued on Monday through his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
The travelers, who were reportedly of northern origin, were gruesomely murdered by a suspected mob last Thursday, sparking widespread outrage.
“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the gruesome murder of 16 travelers in Edo State. This senseless act of violence is unacceptable and has no place in our society,” Akpabio stated.
The Senate President urged law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. “I condemn in very strong terms this heinous crime and urge the relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he added.

He extended his condolences to the victims’ families, the Edo State government, and all those affected by the tragedy.
“My heartfelt condolences go to the families of the victims, the government and people of Edo State, and all those affected by this needless act. I pray that God grants the departed peaceful rest and gives their loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” he concluded.
The statement from Akpabio adds to the growing chorus of reactions condemning the attack, as Nigerians demand justice and stronger security measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
