Implosion Looms in APC — PDP’s Ex-Spokesman Ologbondiyan

Kola Ologbondiyan, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), believes the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is not immune to the kind of political shake-up currently rocking the PDP.

Ologbondiyan was speaking on Arise Television on Wednesday, April 30, reacting to the wave of defections that hit the PDP earlier in the week, particularly in Delta State, where Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, officially joined the APC.

Their exit, after over two decades of PDP dominance in the state, left the party’s structure in shambles. And just days later, Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno hinted that he too might leave the opposition party.

While the situation has stirred anxiety within the PDP, Ologbondiyan downplayed the crisis, describing it as typical political realignment ahead of elections.

“It is the PDP bell that is ringing now, and everybody is talking about mass defection. I can assure you that very soon, it’s going to start from the APC,” he said.

He reminded viewers that he had previously predicted this kind of turbulence across party lines.

“I don’t know if it was on this program, but I remember that on this platform, I did say that implosions are going to happen, and implosions will not be limited to the People’s Democratic Party.”

According to him, the APC is already showing signs of internal strain. He pointed to cracks within two major blocs that merged to form the party, the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), led by President Bola Tinubu, and the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), led by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Even as you speak today, if you have your ears to the ground in the All Progressives Congress, you’re already aware that the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which the President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu led into the APC is in tatters, and that is the truth.

“And I’m sure you saw recently when the CPC, the arm that former President Muhammadu Buhari led into the APC, agitation started.

“Some people are saying oh, we will not go, we’ll stay in APC, we will not leave. Some people are saying oh, you cannot speak for us. All these accounts point to one fact, implosion is coming.”

To him, the defections in the PDP are just part of the broader electoral season, where politicians naturally shift alliances.

“So let us sit by and watch the game as it plays out so it’s not a PDP affair alone, it’s something that will go round,” he said.
