A suspected major player in Kano’s drug underworld, 37-year-old Sulaiman Danwawu, is now facing the weight of the law.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has filed an eight-count charge against him at the Federal High Court in Kano.
Danwawu’s arrest traces back to the 10th of May, when the Kano State Police Command picked him up alongside others. He was later transferred to the NDLEA for further action.
The charge sheet obtained from the court outlines accusations of illegal possession of a mix of potent and banned substances:

“Tramadol, Rohypnol, Cannabis Sativa, Pregabalin, and Codeine-laced cough syrup” substances officially classified as narcotics under Nigerian law.
These alleged offenses were said to have taken place at “Cairo Street, Tudun Yola area of Gwale Local Government, Kano State” during different dates in May 2025.
The NDLEA maintains that Danwawu lacked the required legal clearance to handle such substances, which violates “Section 19 of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.”
A conviction would come with heavy consequences as Nigeria’s drug enforcement agency continues to step up its fight against trafficking and abuse across the country.
