In a solemn and impactful event held at the IGP Smart Conference Hall, Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Thursday, May 23, 2025, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, presented insurance benefit cheques to the families of 1,235 fallen police officers.
The gesture is part of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and a continued honouring of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
The event, witnessed by members of the Force Management Team, senior police officers, insurance stakeholders, and beneficiaries, marked the tenth phase of the disbursement of death benefits under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the IGP Family Welfare Insurance Scheme.
In his remarks, the IGP reaffirmed the Force’s unwavering dedication to upholding the legacy of fallen officers, stating, “The Nigeria Police Force is built on the pillars of service, integrity and sacrifice.
While no amount of compensation can replace a lost life, we remain resolute in standing by the families of our fallen heroes.”
IGP Egbetokun disclosed that this latest round of disbursement, amounting to N2.85 billion, brings the total insurance benefits paid so far to N22.97 billion, covering 8,311 beneficiaries across ten phases since the initiative began.

The IGP also expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Police Force, and pledged that under his leadership, no bereaved family would be left in uncertainty.
“The leadership of the Nigeria Police remains committed to institutionalising a welfare system that not only supports the families of our fallen colleagues but also prioritises the well-being of serving and retired officers,” he said.
The presentation ceremony served not only as a financial relief to grieving families but also as a symbolic reaffirmation of the Force’s enduring commitment to compassion and accountability.
