Gunmen Attack Police Officers on Duty, Injure one, Snatch Riot Gun in Ibadan

Suspected gunmen on Friday, attacked police officers on duty at Sango junction in Ibadan, Oyo state.

First News correspondent learnt that a female police officer was injured and a riot gun was snatched during the attack.

According to multiple reports, the police officers from Sango Division were manning their regular pin-down point around 8:00 p.m. when six assailants, riding on two motorcycles, launched a surprise attack, firing sporadically at the team.

Inspector Rose Sunday, a traffic officer attached to the division, was struck by pellets on her right chest during the gunfire while directing traffic.

She was immediately rushed to Hamdala Hospital, Agbowo, where 12 pellets were extracted from her body.

She is currently responding well to treatment.

The riot gun which was issued to Inspector Omoregbe James, was forcibly taken by the attackers, who fled the scene on their motorbikes.

Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the perpetrators and recover the stolen firearm.

Efforts by First News correspondent to get comments from the Oyo State Police Command failed as the spokesperson, SP Adewale Osifeso, could not be reached.
