Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their global standing, holding firm at 36th place in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings released on Thursday, while reaffirming their status as Africa’s top team.
Despite seeing no shift in their position, the nine-time African champions continue to dominate the continental table, with no other African nation breaking into the top 40.
The latest rankings reflect performances from recent international friendlies and qualifiers played across the globe.
Globally, the United States remains at the summit but is now facing tighter competition.
Spain, climbing into second, and Germany in third, have both gone unbeaten in recent outings and are closing the gap on the Americans.
The U.S., meanwhile, slipped slightly in form, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Brazil in April.
That result propelled the South Americans to fourth place, their highest in recent times.

England drops one place to fifth, followed closely by Sweden.
Japan and Canada weren’t so fortunate either, as defeats to South American opposition saw them slide down the table.
Back home, the Super Falcons are preparing for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with a recent 2-0 victory over Cameroon in an international friendly played in Abeokuta.
Forward Rasheedat Ajibade starred in the match, netting both goals in the first half to secure the win for Coach Justin Madugu’s side.
As part of their continued buildup to WAFCON — where they’re grouped alongside Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana — the Falcons are set to face Portugal in another friendly on Monday, June 23.
The next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Rankings is scheduled for release on August 7, 2025.
