The Executive Chairman of Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Prince Musibau Adekunle Asafa, has passed away after a long battle with illness, plunging the community and local government into mourning.
The news of his death was officially made public on Saturday in a statement shared on Facebook by his Chief Press Secretary, Bodunrin Ayodele.
While the exact date of Asafa’s death was not revealed, Ayodele confirmed that the chairman had succumbed to a prolonged illness despite medical intervention.
“Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area is in mourning following the passing of its Executive Chairman, Prince Musibau Adekunle Asafa,” the statement read in part. “Prince Asafa, a respected politician, leader and dedicated public servant, succumbed to a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of service and commitment to the people he served.”
A family source, according to the statement, confirmed that his death came after a sustained medical effort to manage his health challenges.

Tributes have begun pouring in from political leaders and members of the public, with many describing him as a tireless and selfless public servant who devoted his tenure to improving grassroots governance and development in Oto-Awori.
Among those who have expressed their condolences is the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Abdul-Hamed Salawu, who in a social media post extended heartfelt sympathies to the people of Oto-Awori and the All Progressives Congress (APC) family.
“The Executive, Legislature, Management and the people of Somolu Local Government extend their deepest condolences over the painful demise of Prince Musibau Adekunle Asafa,” Salawu stated. “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.”
Prince Asafa’s passing leaves a significant void in local leadership, and his contributions to community development and governance are expected to be remembered for years to come. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
