The Eha-Amufu community in Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu State is once again gripped by tragedy as the death toll from Sunday’s brutal herdsmen attack in Ikpakpara village, Agu-Amede, has climbed to 12, bringing the total number of killings in the area to at least 168 since 2021.
Local sources confirmed that several bodies were recovered from surrounding bushes as desperate search efforts continue. Eyewitnesses described how the attackers, reportedly dropped from helicopters, killed male villagers on sight, causing mass panic and forcing residents to flee.
Residents now live in fear, unable to farm or harvest food due to the unending violence.
“Nobody has gone to the farms in days. Our people are starving and traumatised,” said Sunday Ebe, a community leader.
The attack is the second in just one week. Videos circulating online show women and children weeping as the bodies of loved ones are brought home.

In response, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi issued a heartfelt statement, saying: “My heart breaks for the Eha-Amufu people. These killings must stop. We cannot keep watching communities bleed without justice or protection.”
He called for immediate and lasting security interventions in the region, insisting that communities deserve more than compassion — they deserve safety and justice.
Tensions remain high as the community accuses the local government of neglect, while questioning the absence of aerial surveillance despite the scale of the assault. With over 49 kidnappings and scores still missing, Eha-Amufu is once again a symbol of Nigeria’s failure to protect its rural heartlands from violent invasion.
The federal and state governments are being urged to act decisively and halt what many now describe as an unending massacre.
