The Nigerian Air Force has ramped up its efforts in tackling violence in the Middle Belt by sending more aircraft to support Operation Whirl Stroke an ongoing joint military mission across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba.
This latest move came to light after top military leaders met on the 17th of June, 2025, at the Tactical Air Command headquarters in Makurdi, Benue State. The meeting was announced on the force’s X page.
In attendance were Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Olusegun Ferreira, who represented the Chief of Naval Staff; and several other senior commanders.
Following an on-ground assessment, Air Marshal Abubakar explained that the new air power was already turning the tide in critical areas.
“The newly deployed aircraft have enhanced operational reach, delivering real-time intelligence, close air support, and precision strikes that have dismantled militia camps and criminal hideouts,” he said.

He also tied the deployment to a broader national agenda focused on restoring order and protecting communities in the region.
“As long as peace is threatened, our resolve remains unshaken,” he added.
At the joint briefing, the Service Chiefs highlighted how collaboration across branches of the military had contributed to the progress made so far.
They promised that the intensified operations would continue under a well-coordinated plan to guarantee safety for civilians.
For residents, these reinforcements bring a glimmer of hope. Many communities have suffered repeated attacks, especially in Benue, where violence has claimed more than 200 lives.
