Two lawmakers in the House of Representatives have dumped their opposition parties and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing unresolved leadership crises.
Peter Akpanke, who represents Obanliku/Obudu/Bekwarra Federal Constituency of Cross River State, announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Professor Paul Nnamchi, representing Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency, also left the Labour Party (LP).
Their decisions were formally acknowledged on Tuesday during plenary as Speaker Abbas Tajudeen read their letters of defection on the House floor.

Akpanke, in his letter, expressed gratitude to the PDP for offering him a platform but said lingering internal wrangling had made it impossible for him to stay.
“I want to sincerely thank the PDP for the opportunity to fly its flag. However, the absence of peace in the party has necessitated my decision to move to another party,” he stated.
On his part, Prof Nnamchi said his exit from the Labour Party was due to the leadership crisis that continues to trouble the party, making it difficult for him to perform his legislative duties effectively.
The defections mark yet another shift in the political landscape of the House, with the APC gaining ground ahead of the 2027 elections.
