Businessman Refutes Assault Allegations, Says Lawyer Provoked Incident

A Nigerian businessman, Williams Raymond, has responded to claims that he physically attacked lawyer Ajiki John Boluwaji.

He also rejected the allegation that he unlawfully detained a worker, Lekan Adewole, linked to the disappearance of his 17-year-old son, Adam, nearly two weeks ago.

The incident has attracted attention after the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Gwagwalada Branch, alleged that Raymond hired thugs to assault the lawyer while he was serving a demand letter over Adewole’s reported detention.

But Raymond gave his side of the story in a statement to journalists on the 25th of June, 2025.

He insisted Boluwaji stormed his office at Apo Market Junction, Abuja, and began hurling insults when he refused to accept the letter without legal advice.

Raymond said he made it clear he would only respond after his lawyer had reviewed the document.

According to him, Boluwaji whom he described as looking unprofessional attacked a shopkeeper, Itoro Dominic Robert, who tried to defuse the heated exchange.

He also clarified that the lawyer was never stopped from calling anyone or had his phone taken.

“He was not looking like a lawyer. In fact, he wore slippers.

‘I said all these things are false. I will not sign. I will wait for my lawyer to advise me accordingly.’

“He became unruly, He spoke to me as if I were his child, He also called me unprintable names. I do not know his motives.

The person who assaulted the lawyer has been detained. He was a passerby,” Raymond said.
