Kugbo, Mabushi Terminals to Handle 20,000+ Passengers Daily — Otunola

The Managing Director and CEO of Planet Project Ltd, Mr. Biodun Otunola, has stated that the new Kugbo and Mabushi Bus and Taxi Terminals in Abuja can accommodate over 20,000 commuters daily.

He shared this information on the 26th of June, 2025, during the official launch of the Kugbo terminal, which was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu as part of events marking his second year in office.

“We can take over 120 buses here and we’ve designed this place such that it can handle up to 10,000 passengers every day. It’s the same thing with the one in Mabushi as well,” he said.

According to Otunola, both terminals are meant for inter-city and intracity travel, while a third one under construction in the Central Business District is designed mainly for urban movement.

He noted that each terminal would provide jobs for no fewer than 100 people, covering roles in security, ticketing, facility operations, electrical works, mechanical support, and maintenance.

“It’s like running a mini airport. You have control rooms, lifts, escalators, waiting areas, loading bays, and even shopping and cinema spaces.”

Otunola highlighted the significance of the projects, calling them a major development for transportation in the FCT.

“Before now, Abuja has always been about car and road transportation. For the first time, the government has invested in public transport that brings comfort and safety.

This place gives you safety, comfort, and convenience to travel. You can eat, shop, and rest while waiting for your bus. This is how it is done in other parts of the world.”

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for placing their confidence in a Nigerian-owned firm to execute such a large-scale development.

“I feel very happy and proud that the government is beginning to trust its own people to handle big projects like this. If they didn’t believe in us, we wouldn’t have achieved this.”

Otunola also endorsed the FCT Minister’s move to let private firms manage the terminals for better efficiency.

He urged the government to build additional terminals across the city to meet demand.

“We will need one in Gwagwalada, one in Kuje, Gwarinpa, Lugbe, and also in city areas like Area 1, Area 3, Wuse, and other key places.”

At the commissioning, President Tinubu, represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, said the terminals would improve the commuting experience, support commerce, and enhance safety.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike also spoke at the event, saying the terminals would reduce roadside waiting and protect commuters from criminal elements known as “one chance” operators.

He thanked the President for backing the initiative to upgrade public transportation in Abuja.
