Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd), has praised the efforts of Nigerian Army troops for successfully repelling a recent attack by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Buratai, Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

Buratai, who was in his hometown on a private visit, stopped at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Buratai, where he met with personnel of the 135 Special Forces Battalion.

This was disclosed in a post shared by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, on Friday.

Accompanied by retired Maj.-Gen. Bulama Biu, former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division, commended the troops for their bravery and commitment in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations.

“It was a fulfilling homecoming for me. While in Buratai, I interacted with the gallant troops on the ground who continue to do the nation proud.

“I commend the Commanding Officer, his officers, and soldiers for their recent exploits in decimating Boko Haram terrorists that attempted to infiltrate their location,” Buratai said.

He urged the troops to sustain their operational momentum and continue upholding the Nigerian Army’s reputation for courage and discipline.

Buratai was also received by the Commander of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, as well as the Commander of the 27 Task Force Brigade.

He applauded their leadership and effective coordination, describing their contributions as vital to the success of military operations in the region.

During the visit, the former Chief of Army Staff noted that the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai had also reached out to him, and he expressed appreciation for the commander’s operational leadership across the theatre.

He further acknowledged the strategic leadership of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, who he said contacted him during the visit.

Buratai lauded the COAS for his ongoing efforts to boost morale and enhance the performance of troops across the country.

Expressing confidence in the Nigerian Armed Forces, Buratai emphasised the importance of inter-agency collaboration in addressing the nation’s security challenges.

“The military alone cannot do it. The cooperation and support of other security services and relevant stakeholders are crucial to achieving the desired end state of a secure and peaceful Nigeria,” he added.
