Former Justice Minister Malami Dumps APC for ADC, Calls for National Rebirth

In a dramatic political realignment, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), urging Nigerians to unite in what he called a “movement for national renewal.”

In a powerful public statement, Malami said his decision was driven not by personal ambition or resentment, but by deep concern for the worsening state of the country. He revealed that the move came after months of consultations and soul-searching, spurred by the growing insecurity, economic hardship, and erosion of public trust in governance.

“Our nation is bleeding. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism continue to endanger lives. The economy is in freefall, and everyday Nigerians can no longer afford basic necessities,” Malami said.

He condemned the current political climate, where loyalty to party often trumps loyalty to the people, declaring that he could no longer remain complicit in a system that enables suffering and mediocrity.

By joining the ADC, Malami said he was aligning with a party that represents justice, inclusion, and meaningful change. He vowed to use his voice to amplify the concerns of the people of Kebbi State and to help build a country that works for all.

“This is not a time for fear or silence,” he declared. “Nigeria belongs to all of us. We must reclaim it together.”

Malami’s defection is seen as a major boost for the ADC, now emerging as the flagship platform of a united opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
