Isolo Throne: Yekini-Goloba Sues Lagos Govt

A legal battle has begun at the Lagos State High Court, where Prince Jimmy Adetokunbo Yekini-Goloba is challenging the appointment of Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni-Faronbi as the traditional ruler of Isolo.

In case number LD/13362/2025, Yekini-Goloba is asking the court to declare him the rightful heir to the Isolo throne. He bases his claim on the principle of rotation among ruling houses in the Isolo Kingdom and the support of the Alagbeji Ruling House, which he says is next in line to provide a monarch.

Those joined in the suit are Prince Isa Abiodun Shekoni-Faronbi, the Governor of Lagos State, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the Chieftaincy Committee of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, and the Executive Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Council.

Represented by Professor Olarenwaju Fagbohun, SAN, Yekini-Goloba is seeking several reliefs. These include the cancellation of Shekoni-Faronbi’s nomination, its approval, and his installation. He is also asking the court to compel the state to recognise and install him as the legitimate Osolo of Isolo.

The claimant argues that the Alagbeji Ruling House, his lineage, is the rightful next house to occupy the throne following the death of Oba Kabiru Alani Adelaja Agbabiaka (Adeola Olushi III) in April 2024.

Yekini-Goloba maintains he received full backing from his ruling house and was selected by the Kingmakers through consultation with the Ifa oracle and a transparent internal voting process.

In his sworn statement, he outlines his descent from all three officially recognised royal families in Isolo Alagbeji, Okota, and Adeola. He claims Shekoni-Faronbi’s emergence defied traditional customs and occurred while a similar matter was already before the court.

He also wants the court to order that all official instruments, including the staff of office, be withdrawn from Shekoni-Faronbi. In addition, he is demanding N50 million in compensation for the expenses incurred during the legal process.
