Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s former vice-presidential candidate, has begun efforts to reconcile the party’s divided leadership as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
On Monday, July 21, Datti reportedly met with Julius Abure, the factional National Chairman, and members of his camp in Abuja, during which he promised to spearhead moves aimed at healing the party’s internal rift.
The Labour Party has been battling a leadership crisis since the 2023 elections, a situation that has raised concerns about its unity and electoral strength going forward.

Datti’s latest move comes amid rising tensions within the party, particularly following the show of support by presidential candidate Peter Obi for a new political coalition under the African Democratic Congress.
Datti’s intervention is now being seen as a timely and meaningful effort to restore order and direction within the party.
