The North Central Zonal Director of the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW), DDG Abdul Adamu Eneche, has linked insecurity in Nigeria to unchecked borders and local arms production.
He made this known during a visit to the Niger State Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, in Minna. Eneche emphasized the need for joint efforts to address the threat.
“The violent crimes threatening national security are being driven by the proliferation of small arms and that is the reason for establishing the centre,” he said.
Eneche explained that the Centre was set up in 2021 and is staffed by operatives from the military, police, and DSS. Its main aim, he added, is to build a society free of illegal weapons.

He thanked the police commissioner for granting the meeting despite the limited notice and acknowledged the contributions of the Nigeria Police to arms seizures at the grassroots level.
In response, CP Elleman pledged full cooperation with the Centre. He promised ongoing collaboration, support, and inter-agency engagement to boost efficiency.
He also highlighted the importance of joint personnel training to enhance understanding of each agency’s structure and roles, and committed to submitting quarterly reports to the Centre.
