Akwa Ibom to Rebuild NYSC Camp, Launch Youth Hubs

In a bold move to enhance youth development and improve the welfare of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has ordered a complete reconstruction and modernization of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit-Antai LGA.

The announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘B’ Stream 1 corps members on Friday.

Represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerete Ekanem, Governor Eno also disclosed plans to establish Youth Friendly Hubs—tech-enabled spaces powered by solar energy and equipped with full internet access—in all 31 Local Government Areas of the state.

These developments are part of a wider youth-focused agenda from the governor, who recently approved an increase in monthly stipends for corps members in the state from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.

The new rate applies both to corps members serving in Akwa Ibom and indigenes serving across the country.

“My administration has approved the reconstruction of a state-of-the-art orientation camp for corps members,” the governor stated. “We are also setting up Youth Friendly Hubs in every LGA. These hubs will require the technical input of corps members, offering them an opportunity to innovate and give back during their service year.”

While emphasizing the role of the youth in community transformation, Eno urged corps members to embrace local cultures and make meaningful impacts through education, healthcare, agriculture, and other development sectors.

“I assure you of your safety. Akwa Ibom is known for hospitality,” he said. “Explore our communities, learn our values, and leave behind lasting legacies.”

The State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Sam Pepple, confirmed that 1,078 corps members were registered for the current batch—518 males and 560 females. He encouraged them to actively participate in all NYSC programs, particularly the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) initiative.

Pepple also extended appreciation to the state government for its unwavering support, particularly the camp upgrade and allowance increment.

The initiatives reflect a growing trend among states investing in youth engagement infrastructure, positioning Akwa Ibom as a front-runner in corps member welfare and post-service opportunities.
