Omoyele Sowore, presidential flag bearer of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 election, has confirmed that he will respond to a summons from the Inspector General of Police Monitoring Unit in Abuja.
The politician made this known in a WhatsApp statement on Tuesday, the 5th of August, 2025, stating that he plans to meet with the police unit on Wednesday, the 6th of August, 2025.
Earlier that same day, Sowore, who also founded Sahara Reporters, had reached out to the unit. He requested access to the petition that prompted the investigation and asked to know who filed it.
Instead of releasing the requested information, the Monitoring Unit told him to appear in person. The petition, they said, would be disclosed during the meeting.
A formal reply from the unit dated the 5th of August, 2025 was sent to Tope Temokun Chambers, Sowore’s legal team.
The letter was signed by Deputy Commissioner of Police Akin Fakorede, who heads the unit.

The response read: “I refer to your letter dated August 5, 2025 on the above subject matter and respectfully notify your client Mr. Omoyele Sowore that based on his request for re-scheduling of appointment, a new date August 6, 2025 by 11.30 am has been scheduled for his interview with the Head of IGP Monitoring Unit.”
Speaking further on the situation, Sowore questioned the process.
“The IGP Monitoring Unit has scheduled my interview for tomorrow (Wednesday) at 11:00 AM, yet they have refused to provide a copy of the purported petition against me.”
He also pointed to deeper concerns about the reason for the invitation.
“Despite this, I will honour the invitation, but not alone. I will be going with a full house. To all our revolutionary comrades, as always, we move together. Let every freedom fighter, every citizen of conscience, every voice of resistance assemble early tomorrow at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja,” he wrote.
