Court Arraigns Man for Alleged Threats to Gov Adeleke’s Life

A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, was on Wednesday, August 6, arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over an alleged threat to the life of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Gafar faced charges bordering on threat to kill, threat to life, and conduct likely to breach public peace. He, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Prosecutor, Matthew Ojei, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 12 in Ibadan.

He alleged that Gafar used social media to transmit threatening messages against the governor.

According to Ojei, Gafar’s conduct was capable of inciting public unrest and constituted a violation of Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Defence counsel, Mr Marvelous Ojeleye, urged the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦2.5 million, with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that one of the sureties must possess a landed property, while the other should be a blood relation of the defendant.

The matter was adjourned till November 13 for hearing.
