Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested a 13-year-old boy, Samuel Sunday, for carrying his father’s gun to school and threatening to shoot fellow pupils at St. Paul Primary School in Ikot Ibiok, Eket Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the arrest on Wednesday in Uyo, revealing that Sunday had been carrying a locally made pistol since November 2024. He reportedly took the gun from his father’s bedroom.
“The suspect confessed he has been with the said gun since November 2024, that he got it from a wardrobe in his father’s bedroom,” Azare said.
The police also arrested the boy’s father, and investigations are ongoing.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Abasifreke Udo Thomas, also known as Udo Orlando or Olamide, for shooting a woman in December 2024. Police recovered a locally made pistol from him.
Additionally, three suspects—Uyobong Ekong Edet, Israel Daniel Bassey, and Nsikak Asuquo Okon—were arrested on January 30, 2025, for attempted murder, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.
The police recovered a pistol, live cartridges, machetes, and other items.
The police also apprehended two individuals who had invaded a Setraco company site in Ibiono Ibom LGA, recovering a pistol from them.
Lastly, Roseline Maurice and Eno Udoka were arrested for conspiring to steal a child in Obong Itam village, Itu LGA, selling the child for ₦200,000.
They used the money to buy household items, which were recovered during their arrest.
