Veteran Nigerian actor Chiwetalu Agu has shared his admiration for music sensation Yemi Alade, commending her for confidently showcasing African culture at the 67th Grammy Awards.

The Nollywood star emphasised that her presence and attire at the event were victories.

Expressing his admiration for Yemi Alade, Agu in a video he shared on his Instagram account on Tuesday said, “Yemi Alade, you are a queen; the queen you think you are.

“She may not have won the Grammy, but she clearly won my heart. If there is nobody to say it, I chief Chiwetalu will give you your flowers while you can still smell them.”

Agu stated that the singer’s decision to wear traditional African attire underscored her pride in her heritage.

He said, “Not only did she represent Afrobeat, she also represented the African culture through her attire at the Grammy Awards. She was not there to impress anyone. Her outfit was screaming, ‘I did not come to impress you. I know my roots.

“Do we talk about how decent and natural she has been as an artist? Or beautiful she is as a woman or how talented, disciplined, reserved, established and humble she is as a lady?

“Yemi keep on being the role model you are to so many young girls. Chief Chiwetalu admires and loves you so much. I pray you find your ‘Johnny’ at the right time.”

In response to the video, Alade said, “I’m not gonna lie. Someone is cutting one full bag of onions. God bless you sir.”
