Veteran Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, is at the centre of an aviation controversy following an alleged security breach at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Monday, August 4, 2025.
According to a statement released by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Wednesday, the incident occurred during boarding procedures for ValueJet flight VK 201, which was scheduled to depart Abuja for Lagos.
The altercation reportedly began when K1 attempted to board the aircraft with a flask containing a liquid substance that exceeded the permissible limit of 100ml, in violation of Nigeria’s National Civil Aviation Security Programme (NCASP) and international aviation rules outlined in ICAO Annex 17.
FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, explained that the artist was asked by aviation security personnel and the flight captain to either declare the contents of the flask or surrender it. K1 allegedly insisted that the drink was medically prescribed but was unable to provide supporting documentation.
As the situation escalated, K1 reportedly refused to comply with requests for further screening and, according to FAAN, poured the contents of the flask – later confirmed to be alcohol – on the officer and the captain.
Subsequently, the airline security team requested that he step aside, but the musician allegedly resisted.
In a dramatic turn, after being deboarded, K1 reportedly stood in front of the aircraft, allegedly attempting to prevent the plane from taking off. The pilot eventually accelerated the aircraft, narrowly missing the musician by inches.
K1 was later escorted away by members of the AVSEC crime unit for questioning before being released.
FAAN strongly condemned the disruption and confirmed that an internal investigation is ongoing.

“We will not tolerate actions that compromise aviation safety or violate established security protocols, regardless of the individual involved,” the agency said.
However, in a counterstatement, K1’s media aide, Kunle Rasheed, refuted the allegations, calling them “exaggerated and misleading.”
The aide claimed that the flask in question contained only drinking water provided at the lounge, and that the artist acted calmly throughout the ordeal. He further alleged that the incident was unnecessarily escalated by airport staff.
The statement also claimed that top executives of the airline later apologised to K1 and even offered to charter a private jet to convey him to Lagos — an offer the artist reportedly declined. K1’s camp also stated that the pilot involved has had her license suspended and may be attempting to shift blame.
“We urge the media and public to avoid sensationalism and allow the investigation to uncover the truth,” the statement read.
FAAN has assured the public that all parties involved will be held accountable according to aviation laws, as the incident remains under official review.
