A fresh wave of violence rocked Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Wednesday, as armed bandits launched coordinated attacks on farmers in multiple communities, leaving chaos, fear, and death in their wake.
According to local reports and a security alert posted Thursday morning by conflict analyst Bakatsine on X (formerly Twitter), the assailants stormed the farming settlements of Gidan Buwai, Kundus, Rarah, and Dudu Barade Bulke, firing shots and forcing terrified farmers to flee their lands.
“A fleeing hunter was shot in Rarah,” Bakatsine wrote in the alert, confirming the only known fatality of the incident. “No abductions or livestock thefts reported,” he added, a rare note of relief in an otherwise grim update.
Residents described the ordeal as traumatic, with gunfire echoing through the rural fields and families abandoning their homes in a frantic bid for safety.
While authorities have yet to issue an official statement, local sources suggest the attack is part of a troubling resurgence of rural violence in the northwest state.

Sokoto, like several northern Nigerian states, continues to grapple with worsening insecurity linked to armed banditry and militia violence.
Rural communities are often left vulnerable due to limited security presence and inadequate emergency response infrastructure.
Wednesday’s incident adds to a growing list of violent episodes in the state’s agricultural zones—attacks that not only threaten lives but also jeopardize food production in one of Nigeria’s key farming regions.
